Environmental sustainability is embedded within the HPS business culture. Can you explain what that means?
Environmental sustainability is an integral part of HPS’s business culture, from the product to the general operations of the company.
Our product helps manufacturers of liquid and wet products to massively reduce their water and energy consumption, product waste, chemical usage, and carbon emissions.
Within our own general operations, we’ve made massive strides in the past few years to improve our sustainability, and, in 2023, we achieved the Investors in the Environment Bronze accreditation.
We actively aim to reduce our water usage, paper consumption, travel carbon emissions, and more through various schemes and policies.
How can pigging help both large manufacturers and SMEs achieve their sustainable manufacturing goals?
HPS Advanced Liquid Product Recovery Technology, more commonly known as pigging technology, helps manufacturers of all sizes to improve their sustainability within manufacturing operations.
If a company, be they large, medium, or small, manufactures liquid or wet products and wants to improve its sustainability in operations, we’re happy to work with them.
We’ve worked with companies of all sizes who have cut their changeover emissions by 99.3% just by implementing pigging systems.
We’ve also calculated that for every fifty pigging systems commissioned, there is a reduction of approximately 27,375 tonnes of carbon. That’s equivalent to taking 6,092 cars off the roads.
What other benefits and outcomes can manufacturers expect from partnering with you?
Environmental benefits aren’t all that HPS pigging solutions offer.
When HPS was founded, the idea was to take the concept of pigging found in the oil and gas industry and improve it.
The result is a projectile, known as a ‘pig’, that’s suitable for use in the hygienic industries and has been designed with efficiency and safety in mind.
The distinguishing feature of the HPS pig is the flexible, magnetised core. Because there are no solid magnets in the pig it manoeuvres around bends – even ones that are 1.5D or 90 degrees – and can continue to recover up to 99.5% of product.
Recovering such a large quantity of product has a multitude of benefits, including increased yields and profits, faster changeovers, reduced risks of contamination and cross-contamination, reduced waste and waste-related costs, and, importantly, a rapid payback period and a sustained return on investment.
What will you be showcasing at Sustainable Food Factory 2024?
Unfortunately, pigging systems tend to be rather large, otherwise we’d bring one along!
However, we can showcase how our advanced liquid product recovery (pigging) technology provides a high financial return on investment while delivering significant environmental and sustainability benefits to our clients.
We’ll also have copies of our Carbon-Zero report available to take away, so attendees can find out how HPS pigging technology reduces carbon emissions during changeovers.
And, of course, case studies from clients such as CP Kelco, St. Ivel, and Mondelez International.
In one sentence, how would you best describe the company?
HPS pigging technology helps companies that manufacture or process liquids significantly increase their yields and capacity, reduce waste, save energy, lower their carbon footprint and improve environmental sustainability.
